Scuola Grande di San Teodoro 2026
A Baroque confraternity hall by the Rialto, home of I Musici Veneziani.
Scuola Grande di San Teodoro in Numbers
A scuola grande beside the Rialto
The Scuola Grande di San Teodoro is dedicated to Saint Theodore, the first patron saint of Venice. The confraternity was founded in 1258 inside the church of San Salvador and later moved next door into premises of its own, on Campo San Salvador; the Baroque building is the work of Antonio Sardi, completed by Baldassarre Longhena. It is one of the six scuole grandi of the Venetian Republic.
Since 1999 the frescoed upper hall has been the concert home of I Musici Veneziani, who play in costume of the eighteenth century. Their programmes centre on Vivaldi — The Four Seasons above all — and on the Baroque and Opera evening of arias, with the hall itself as the setting.
Finding the Scuola Grande di San Teodoro
The Scuola stands on Campo San Salvador in the San Marco district, beside the church of the same name and a few minutes on foot from the Rialto bridge. There is no vehicle access anywhere in central Venice: take vaporetto Line 1 or 2 to Rialto and continue through the lanes. Allow extra time — the route is easy to lose.
