Simply Red live in Piazza San Marco

Seeing Simply Red in Piazza San Marco promises a very different atmosphere from a conventional indoor arena show.

The historic square at the heart of Venice provides the backdrop for a summer evening built around Mick Hucknall's voice and a catalogue spanning more than four decades.

Simply Red were formed in Manchester in 1985 and have remained a major international live act ever since. Their music moves naturally between soul, pop, funk and R&B, giving their concerts a setlist that can shift from intimate ballads to songs designed to get the entire audience moving.

The songs fans will want to hear in Venice

Simply Red's catalogue includes some of the most recognisable British pop and soul songs of the past four decades.

Holding Back the Years, Stars, If You Don't Know Me by Now, Fairground, Something Got Me Started and Money's Too Tight (to Mention) remain among the tracks most closely associated with Mick Hucknall and the band.

Those classics have also been given new life through Recollections, a collection featuring 40 newly recorded Simply Red songs celebrating the band's 40-year legacy. The project includes new versions of Holding Back the Years, Stars, Fairground and many other fan favourites.

That makes the 2027 Venice concert an opportunity to hear songs from across the full Simply Red story rather than a show centred on just one period of their career.

A summer night with Simply Red in Venice

Few concert locations offer the visual identity of Piazza San Marco.

For international visitors, the concert can also become part of a summer trip to Venice.

With a career stretching back to the mid-1980s and songs that continue to attract several generations of listeners, Simply Red remain a natural fit for a large open-air summer concert.
