A journey through Morricone’s music and cinema

This performance is conceived as more than a conventional orchestral concert. Music and projected images combine to evoke the cinematic worlds associated with Ennio Morricone’s compositions.

The interaction between screen and stage allows audiences to reconnect the music with the atmosphere, characters and emotions of cinema. The orchestra brings Morricone’s melodies, rhythmic ideas and distinctive instrumental colours into the theatre, while the projections reinforce the visual dimension of the programme.

The exact list of compositions and films represented has not yet been published. Customers should therefore book for the overall tribute rather than expecting a specific soundtrack or individual piece.

Ennio Morricone’s unforgettable film music

Ennio Morricone created a musical language that extended far beyond conventional film accompaniment. His scores used orchestral writing alongside whistles, voices, bells, folk instruments and unexpected sounds, producing themes that often became as memorable as the films themselves.

His internationally recognised work includes music connected with films such as The Mission, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and many other major European and international productions. These titles illustrate the range of his career but should not be interpreted as confirmation of the programme for the Venice concert.

The concert offers both established Morricone admirers and first-time listeners an opportunity to experience his music with the scale and immediacy of a live orchestra.

Orchestra Ritmico Sinfonica Italiana

The music will be performed by the Orchestra Ritmico Sinfonica Italiana under the direction of Diego Basso.

Morricone’s scores frequently move between expansive symphonic passages and more intimate melodies. A large live ensemble can reveal instrumental details that may be less noticeable when the same music is heard through a television, film soundtrack or recording.

Soprano Claudia Sasso adds a vocal element to the performance, extending the programme beyond purely instrumental arrangements. The combination of orchestra, voice and projected images creates a complete audiovisual tribute inside Teatro Malibran.

A Morricone concert at Teatro Malibran

The event takes place at Teatro Malibran, one of Venice’s historic theatres.

Although Teatro Malibran is connected with the Fondazione Teatro La Fenice, this particular concert features the Orchestra Ritmico Sinfonica Italiana rather than the resident La Fenice Orchestra. The venue should therefore be displayed clearly throughout the booking process.

The traditional auditorium provides an atmospheric setting for a performance based on cinematic imagery and live music. Its relatively intimate dimensions also allow the audience to remain closely connected with the conductor, musicians and projected visuals.

Who should attend this concert?

This tribute is suitable for visitors who enjoy film music but may not normally attend a traditional classical concert.

Morricone’s melodies are accessible, highly expressive and closely connected with cinematic storytelling. The visual projections also make the performance easier to follow for audiences unfamiliar with symphonic repertoire.

It is a strong choice for couples, families with older children and international visitors looking for an evening cultural event during a November stay in Venice.
